Happy New Ears 2016: Your Nominations

Greetings friends of free jazz:

This year we are introducing a more streamlined and more inclusive New Ears poll by combining the New Ears and Album of the Year list. From our reviewers top 10 lists (which will be published later this month), we have selected the first five albums and your nominations will help fill in the last 5 slots. Through the end of the week, we are taking your suggestions for the New Ears/Album of the Year. Once we tally the submissions, we will present a final list for you to help us vote on.

The criteria: suggest any album that fits the free jazz/avant-garde idiom that you wish, however, the album's that make the top album of the year list will only be ones that were covered (or will be covered) on the Free Jazz Blog by Dec 31st.

Use the comments section to nominate, deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Dec 17th.

  • Mary Halvorson Octet - Away With You (Firehouse 12)
  • Tyshawn Sorey - Inner Spectrum of Variables (Pi)
